New Delhi: We all remember it. The moms and the aita’s used to talk about it in the kitchen. “Bhut jolokia or 'ghost chillies' of Tezpur figure has found a mention in the Time Magazine's latest issue as the world's hottest chilli. The magazine's cover story that takes a look at the culinary specialities and peculiarities around the world has zeroed in on the burnt orange pods, developed in a military laboratory in Tezpur, as packing the deadliest punch.
The article on 'Global Warming' notes that the bhut jolokia, also called the Naga chilli, carries the sort of heat that one normally would find only in the hottest chilli sauces made from pure pepper extract.

As you have mentioned that Naga -Chili is developed at DRL , Tezpur , rather it has been tested there and claimed for the first time that it is the world's hottest chili. Finally New Maxico state University( Chile Pepper Institute ) brought it into lime light.
The BHUT of Bhut Jalakia is not GHOST. It is actually BHOOT meaning Hill Peaple of North, specifically the people of present day Arunachal Pradesh. And the name Naga Chili is seldom used.

BHUT of bhut jolokia meaning ghost (READERS DIGEST)??.. A BIT CONFUSING. Anyway this is one of the profitable crop for our farmers. ASSAM BHOOT JOLOKIA should get GSI.

We should immediately apply for GI or else we will lose. This is an indigeneous product and only Assam should benifit. We should encourage only son of soil Assamese growers, promoters and buyers.

when I was Sr.Manager of a Tea garden in upper assam I used the pickle of bhoot jolokia rather the oil to deter Green leaf theives (which was a menacein upper Assam gardens)on my own way and got the tittle "Jolokia sahab" from the villegers.Stil we are growing in our kitchen garden and best use the pickle during summer.

I was at TGIF last eve & had my first opportunity to taste Red JOLOKIA Paste on my chicken wings, though it won me a free pint but I am definitely not going to repeat that. However would like to try out green Jolokia sometime.

Ganeshguri : A bomb blast occurred at Ganeshguri Chariali in front of Kamrupa Hotel at 8.15 pm on Tuesday. 2 people have been injured and five cars have been damaged seriously.The injured persons have been identified as one Karuna Kalita (22) and one Dino (40). Nalbari : Suspected ULFA militants blew up a powerful bomb at Rampur near Mukalmuwa in Nalbari district at about 11.40 PM on Tuesday. Two people were injured in the blast. The bomb was planted in a scrape depot of a businessman. Police immediately rushed to the spot and recovered at least 15 detonators from the spot. Details of the incidents are awaited. Bokajan: Suspected AANLA militants on Monday night killed one woman Nirmala Medhiat of Japarjan village under Bokajan police station. Police said that some miscreants fired through the window pan when Nirmla was asleep with her husband. The reasons for the killing are unknown. Poachers have killed two more rhinos near World Famous Kaziranga National Park on Monday taking the total number of rhinos at the world heritage site falling prey this year to eleven. Poachers shot dead a one-horned rhino near Bonkowal and escaped with its horn, nail, tail and ear at about 3.30 AM, park authorities said.
