Ashes of Bhupen Hazarika immersed in Noa and Nanoi at Kalaigaon Tangla

People of Kalaigaon and Tangla paid homage to the ashes of legendary singer Dr.Bhupen Hazarika before immersing in Noa and Nanoi rivers at Kalaigaon and Tangla respectively. Pranjal Das,SDO (Civil), Bhergaon Sub-division accompanied by Pabitra Kumar Das,BDO,Kalaigaon and Ratul Pathak, BDO, Bhergaon formally received the earthen pot containing ashes of the legendary singer from the Udalguri district administration at Udalguri on November 10 at 2 PM. Several hundreds of people of Kalaigaon including AASU, ABSU,AJYCP, Nagarik Manch, Chambers of Commerce, Press Club Kalaigaon etc. received the ashes at Chintagaon village at 5 PM.The ashes were then brought to Yatri Jirani Chora,in front of Kalaigaon Police Station for public view.


Various organizations including ISKON (Namhatta) Kalaigaon performed Kirtan during the processeion. A homage paying ceremony was arranged on the next day at 9 AM.Distingushed peoples namely – Lwmsrao Daimari, EM, BTC;Mukunda Ram Choudhuri,MLA, Kalaigaon; Jagadish Sarkar and Dandi Ram Rabha, MCLA, BTC; Pranjal Das,SDO (Civil), Bhergaon; Pabitra Kumar Das and Ratul Pathak,BDO of Kalaigaon and Bhergaon spoke a few word after offering floral tribute to late Dr. Hazarika. Habibar Rahman,OC,Kalaigaon Police Station;social workers Kami Ram Saharia, Mahendra Saikia,Bimal Prasad Sarma,Kamal Prasad Sarma,Dandi Kumar Boro,Kandeswar Deka, Principal, Kalaigaon HSS, Arabinda Das, Principal Kalaigaon HSS etc also attended the homage paying ceremony.The ashes were later taken in a huge procession through Kalaigaon town before immersing in the Noa river at 2 PM in presence of thousands people, civil and police officials.


Tangla: People of Tangla also offered homage to the ashes of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. DN Hazarika,Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle,Tangla formally received the ashes from Udalguri district administration at Udalguri on November 10 at 1 PM. and placed at Tangla town for public homage at 4 PM.It needs mention that AASU,Nagarik Manch Tangla and BPF leader Jayanta Barua of Tangla had also brought another three ashes container from Guwahati and were placed togather for public homage for three days ie on 9,10 and 11 November.


Various programmes including community prayer,Naam etc were arranged on all the three days. All the ashes containers were ceremoniously immersed in the Nonai river near Tangla town at 2 PM on November 12. More than three thousand people attended the procession leading to the immersion site. It is also known that people of Tangla will organise public “Shradh” of the departed singer on November 15 with daylong programme.

On Saturday evening (Nov 12), the urn containing the ashes of Bhupen Hazarika was immersed at the river Wah Umkhrah in Shillong....reminiscent of his melody "Shillongore godhuli...."

No one imagined the Bard of the Luit would create history in death too....even his mortal remains hold such value....his ashes is being immersed in the rivers of north-east....Siang, Lohit, Subansiri, Kameng, Dibang, Tirap in Arunachal....Wah Umkhrah in Shillong....Gorkhas are planning immersion of his ashes in the Teesta at Darjeeling....the list goes on....AMAZING!!

Python rescued near Kalaigaon

Five villagers rescued a python near Kalaigaon on December 4. According to information five inhabitants of Gohaichowk village (Outala) near Kalaigaon noticed a python lying in a dry drain in a paddy field at 8 am on December 4. The youths namely- Babul Sarma,Harish Kakati,Ghana Kanta Deka,Ratul Deka and Tilak Deka immediately reported the matter to the DFO,Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri. The youths also took care of the reptile till the arrival of the forest personnel. Forest officials namely- Kushal Deka and Hari Baruah rescued the python in sound condition. Sambar deer killed near Coramore

A male Sambar deer (Rusa Unicolar) aged 10 years have been killed by miscreants near Coramore today morning. The deer was found in serious condition when forest personnel rescued it . The deer was brought to Paneri forest office where it succumbed to its injury. According to attending veterinarian Dr.Kailash Chamua the deer bore sharp injured marks near its chest.  

Elephant kills 1 at Bormukali

One Dayal Kerkata (28) has been killed and Girish Kerkata (55) has been seriously injured by of wild elephants last night at Bormukali near Nonoi Forest Range Office.According to information the incident occurred when they had been trying to chase away wild elephants to protect their crops.So far 20 people and 11 wild elephants have been killed in Udalguri district during 2013. It needs mention that the area had once been part of Khalingduar Reserve Forest,but 1365 Hec lands have been encroached during 1980-90 period causing “Man elephant conflict” in the district.

Orientation programme forest personnel

A day long orientation district level programme for all the forest personnel working under Dhansiri Forest Division held at Bornagaon forest camp on November 16. HEC turns serious in Udalguri district: 2 more wild elephants killed

Human-Elephant-Conflict (HEC) takes serious turn in Udalguri district following deaths of two more wild elephants during last three days. In the first incident,a 30 months old baby wild tusker was found dead near a paddy field in Gitibari village near Paneri tea garden in the morning hours of November 3. The baby tusker bore injury marks on its trunk indicating electrocution. Dr. Sulav Sarma,VAS attending post-mortem told this correspondent that the baby tusker had died due to electrocution and food poisoning. A science model exhibition has been arranged at Arunodoi Academy at Tangla on October 21. Another wild elephant killed in Udalguri

A 12 years old wild elephant (Makhona) has been found dead at a paddy field near Bongshipur (Hatigarh) in Udalguri district at noon on October 5.The elephant is suspected to have been poisoned to death as per preliminary veterinary investigation. So far seven wild elephants have been found dead in Udalguri district alone since January 2013.

Tea garden ditches kill more wild elephant calf

The unnatural death of one more wild elephant calf at Bhutiachang tea garden in Udalguri district has caused concern among nature loving people.The two months old male wild elephant breathed its last at section No.20 of Bhutiachang tea garden from falling into a deep tea garden ditch on September 20. According to information the baby elephant fell into the ditch while a herd of wild elephants were crossing the ditches in the night of September 20. The helpless mother tried in vain to rescue the baby watching its tragic death.Forest personnel attended the site only at 9.30 am the next day on September 21 to see the calf dead.
