The Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) has found the headlines for wrong reasons. Crating sounds of the ONGC are leading to noise pollution at Lakwa and areas like – Mojaluya Kuwar Gaon, Dehingia Kuwar Gaon, Barbarva Maidam, Tepomia Gaon, Pathaligarh, Rongagarh, Cholapather etc.
Besides noise, the ONGC is also causing pollution in air, soil and water. The leak of crude oil from ONGC pipes has virtually affected about 1000 bighas of paddy fields. During the rainy season the layer of crude oil spreads to different areas due to which paddy fields are gradually losing its fertility and decreasing in production.
Both the Effluent Treatment plants (ETP) 1 and 2 release different chemical mixed water to the Desang river. Affected people of this area have been demanding proper compensation from the ONGC since last few years. But they are yet to get justice.
In front of Nazira Madrassa School, the polluted water has made it difficult for the students to stay in classrooms. After several requests to the ONGCL, no any positive action has been initiated.
To protect the environment & prevent the water, soil, air & noise pollution of the ONGC, the authorities should awake and take appropriate steps.
