Anti-drug campaign launched by ABSU


Defying the verdict of Supreme Court that banned on sale of tobacco products like gutkha and pan masala in plastic sachets, a section of vendor is still doing bricks business openly in most of places in the State.


Reciprocally, in Karbi Anglong hill district too, the selling of tobacco products like gutkha and pan masala are on massively in every big and small pan shops. Keeping an aim to stop the mushrooming consumers especially among the students and youths, the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Karbi Anglong district unit launched an anti-drugs campaign on Thursday against drugs related products gutkha, Shikkar and pan masal at Langhin Tiniali in Karbi Anglong.


To curb the aggressively ongoing chewing Gutkha, an addictive with brand names of Tiranga, Shikar, Rajnigandha etc, an awareness campaign with sudden raid programmes have been adopted by the ABSU.


As a part of its first modus operandi, the Langhin Anchalik ABSU in active support of school-college students, a sudden raid was carried out against the addicted products sold at pan shop.


Subsequently, collecting numbers of the addictive with brand names of Tiranga, Shikar, Rajnigandha etc from pan shops, processions was taken out by the students and rock the Langhin bazaar shouting anti-drugs slogan. Later assembling all, the collected gutkhas, Tiranga, Shikhar, Rajnigandha etc were destroyed by fire at NH-37.


Meanwhile, speaking on their organizational strategy that going to take step against the addicted products, Badal Mushahary, adviser, ABSU, Langhin anchalik said that anti drugs campaign will be continued in several places in the district. In this regard, he urged district administration to help in the noble societal change activities.
