Security forces in BTAD areas are on an intensified operation in search of Bitu Roy Brahma on Wednesday, 24 hours after the police constable went missing from Labdang guri in Baksa district. Brahma, the constable hailing from Kokrajhar posted at the Labdang gurioutpost has been missing since Tuesday morning. The incident took place hardly a week after suspected NDFB-S militants killed four lemon traders in Baska district sending shock and anger across the BTAD areas. .
Prafulla Kumar Mahanta made it plain and simple that he won’t take back the resignation he tendered as party president on Monday. Senior AGP leaders told Assam Times that despite requests from a circle of senior party leaders, the two time chief minister refused to do it. According to them, a circle of party leaders and workers blamed it all on Mahanta for the recent poll debacle. JINTUL TALUKDAR, BAKSA: Baska police have picked up one more person on Tuesday in connection with the recent incident where suspected NDFB-S militants four local lemon traders. According to information, the person who was arrested on Tuesday morning is believed to have helped the Bodo militants kidnapped the local traders to be killed. Police on Monday arrested three linkmen for helping militants. On the other hand, the authorities have lifted the curfew during the day time from Tuesday. Over 70 people are undergoing treatment in Jorhat after they consumed gram and pulse served at a ritual ceremony on Monday forcing Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Solanki Vishal Vasant has ordered an enquiry into the incident. The ritual ceremony was organized at Alengmora Khutiaputa area under Pulibor police station where 70 people including 23 children took ill after consuming 'prasad' on Tuesday. Local residents told Assam Times that these people complained of severe stomachache and vomiting hours after they consumed grams and pulse. They were rushed to the Solmora Primary Health Centre and later shifted to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital.

Asom Gana Parishad is holding its brainstorming session on Tuesday a day after Prafulla Kumar Mahanta’s resigned a president owning moral responsibility for the party’s defeat in the recent Lok Sabha polls. The Asom Gana Parishad seems to have landed in fresh crisis. Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has resigned as president on Monday allowing the party to look for a new head. Mahanta tendered his resignation at the party’s executive body meeting held at its party headquarters in Ambari. T he former chief minister resigned owning moral responsibility of the party’s defeat in the recent Lok Sabha polls where it failed even to open the account. The party could not retain its Rajya Sabha seat in the polls held in February. The party’s top policy making body is expected to meet again in a day or two to elect a new president.
