Wild tusker kills one at Dudhnoi

A 55 year old person was trampled to death by a wild tusker at a Village near Dudhnoi in Goalpara district in the early morning of Saturday. After damaging the house the elephant attacked Jogesh Nath when he was sleeping at his house along with other family members that night. While others managed to run away, Jogesh Nath failed to move fast and fell victim to the tusker's wrath, villagers said. The incident took place at Maj-jakhili village near Dudhnoi under Krishnai Forest Range in Goalpara district.

It may be noted here that Goalpara district’s southern region has witnessed repeated attacks by wild elephants for about a decade now. Illegal destruction of forests and human encroachment in the forests is the main reason for more and more human-elephant conflicts.
