Trouble brews for Neiphu Rio

KOHIMA: All is not well with NDPP where the supremo of the newly floated party in Nagaland suffers serious setback in the run up the assembly polls slated for February 27.

He is none other than Neiphu Rio, the former chief minister, who hits a major road block with stunning allegations leveled against him by the ruling NPF. Amid an escalating pre poll heat and dust, NPF has moved the Election Commission accusing Rio of trying to forcibly prevent a ruling party candidate from filing nominations triggering widespread acrimony in the entire pre poll political landscape in the north eastern state.

According to a joint complaint by NPF General Secretary cum Nodal Officer to ECI, S. Akho Leyri, the NDPP Chief Ministerial candidate hired some of his party activists at Nerhema in Kohima district on Wednesday who blocked the road ,bereft of any reason, as NPF Chupfu-o Sense was on his way to file the nomination before the returning officer based at Chiephobozou on Wednesday.

Many organizations, social activists and individuals have strongly condemned Rio for his alleged unlawful attempt to get the road blocked only to halt his rival party candidate. In a statement, the Nerhema Youth & Sports Association has slammed the former chief minister for disrupting the rights of his opponent.

President Nouvilie Rülho, General Secretary Neilhouvolie Chatsu, Vice President V. Kengurüse and Assistant General Secretary Khriezo Chadi have simply warned Rio of dire consequences if the NDPP chief keeps disturbing his rival party candidates. “The Youth body would 'not remain a mere spectator to such sinister actions,” said the organization.
