Visit of Dr. Pitambar Dev Goswami to Gurgaon - a report

The day on 30th September, 2007 (Sunday) was slightly different for the Assamese as well as well-wishers of Assam, residing in the Millennium city of Gurgaon, New Delhi & Faridabad. Slightly away from the hustles of the mushrooming malls, the community hall at Rail Vihar, Sector-57 was all agog with hundreds of the Assamese community gathered around. The reason was the visit of Revered Xotraadhikaar of Aauniaati Xotro, Dr. Pitambar Dev Goswami. On, arrival, Dr. Goswami was rendered a traditional welcome by the young residents of Gurgaon with ‘Gayan-Bayan’ and chanting of ‘Uruli’. Arround 150 people from Gurgaon, New Delhi & Faridabad participated in the ‘Naam-Proxongo’, which was followed by ‘Negera Naam’, presented by some young residents of Gurgaon. The ladies were also not far behind and actively participated in the ‘Naam-Proxongo’.

The second session began with a cultural evening, which started at around 07:15 PM with the arrival of Chief Guest, Honorable Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Shri Mukundakam Sharma. The ceremony was formally inaugurated with ‘Lighting of Lamps’ by revered Xotraadhikaar Dr. Goswami, Hnorable Chief Justic Shri Sharma and Retired IAS officer Shri Ashok Saikia. Revered Xotraadhikaar Dr. Goswami was felicitated with a traditional ‘Pator Cheleng Chadar’by Honorable justice Shri Sharma and later on Shri Sharma along with Shri Ashok Saikia was felicited with ‘Cheleng Chadar’ by Shri Mridul Bhuyan, President, Assam Association Gurgaon. The felicitation was followed by a lecture about the works of Dr. Pitambar Dev Goswami by Shri Mukundakam Sharma. Revered Xotraadhikaar, Dr. Goswami mesmerized the gathering of about 200 people with an insight in to the ‘Xotrya Traditions of Assamese Culture’. The highlights of the cultural evening was melodious ‘Borgeet’ presented by disciples of Aaauniaati Xotro, Ms. Eepsita Hazarika, Mr. Mridul Mahanta and Natua Nrityo & Chaali Nrityo, presented by the disciples of Aauniaati Xotro. The curtains to the day long programme dropped at around 09:30 PM with ‘Vote of Thanks’ by Shri Mridul Bhuyan, followed by a sumptuous Assamese Dinner comprising of Rice, Daal, Vegetables, ‘Khar’, ‘Masor Tenga Jool’.

Three kilos of powerful explosive along with other equipments were recovered in a joint search operation by police at a village near Rangjuli in Goalpara district last night. Team Anna backs Akhil Gogoi’s protest against the NHPC-owned big dam in Gerukamukh. In a statement, it asked the government to accept the demands of the protestors. Team Anna maintained that the construction of dams in Arunachal Pradesh be stopped as people of Assam cutting across their economic background have been opposing it. A new housing development policy for Assam is in the offing. The Assam government is set to announce it very soon which is intended to eradicate the problems related to unplanned development in urban areas in the state. Assam and Meghalaya are all set to hold a high level meeting on Thursday to defuse the simmering tension in Langpih. The meeting is slated to be held in the chief secretary level in Guwahati to discuss the recent eviction drive in the area where Kamrup district administration demolished a public hall allegedly built by West West Khasi Hills district administration. Kamrup district administration on Saturday dismantled a community hall of the Hima Raid Mynsaw at Langpih during an eviction drive. A section local residents had started constructing the hall, which was allegedly raided by Assam officials the following day.

Coal India will sign fuel supply agreement with NTPC for 750 MW power plant in Assam. Disclosing this in parliament on Monday, Minister of State for Coal Pratik Prakashbapu Patil said that the government has asked Cola India to strike deal with NTPC to set up 3x 250 MW power project at Bongaigaon. He said that the coal ministry has already issued instructions to Coal India Ltd to sign fuel supply agreement for supply of coal. The minister also said that one unit of the power project of NTPC of a capacity of 250 MW was likely to be commissioned next fiscal, which the other two units in 2014-15 and 2015-16. IED seized from ULFA linkmen A major incident of explosion was averted when police recovered a powerful IED in Goalpara town on Monday. The IED weighing around 3.5 kg, meant to be planted in the town was seized from two ULFA linkmen who were arrested on the Assam-Meghalaya border in the district. According to police, the linkmen Dilung alias Dilam Marak alias Bipimom Marak (30), a person from the Garo community of Meghalaya, and Jyoticharan Boro were arrested from the remote Landakunda area on the border which is close to Bangladesh. Police arrested five persons on Sunday in connection with the theft of bitumen, worth Rs 50 lakh in Morigaon district. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested five persons from Dharamtul area of the district and seized huge quantities of bitumen from them. The bitumen, estimated to be worth around Rs 50 lakh, had been stolen by the five from a consignment for use in ongoing construction activity at National Highway number 37.
One person was killed and three others seriously injured in a road mishap in Golaghat district on Sunday.The driver of a speeding car lost control of the vehicle which skidded off the road killing one person on the spot and injuring three others in Badulipar area. The dead has been identified as Meherban Khan and the injured have been admitted to a local hospital.
