EC prohibits broadcast on Nagaon Talks
After filing a complaint to Election Commission by the senior leader of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and former Chief Minister of Assam Prafulla Kumar Mahanta against the private cable channel “Nagaon Talks” for broadcasting paid news in support of Congress, the election commission prohibited its operation March 26. On the complaint, Mahanta stated about the broadcast of news in support of the ruling congress which violates the model code of conduct issued by EC to political parties and candidates for the forth coming Assam Assembly poll 2011. Moreover, he showed his dissatisfaction over the broadcasting of his personal matters on the channel. During filing the complaint, Mahanta informed the media that he would move to court if needed to impose ban of the channel.
