Career Counselling at Diyungbra

In a bid to sensitise students on various career opportunities .North East Youth Foundation (NEYF) had organised a Career Counselling Programme at St Xavier’s School in Diyungbra in the Dima Hasao District on 19th March. The career counselling programme was first of its kind as for the first time this kind of programme was organised in the school campuses which was founded in 2001. Programme was inaugurated by Fr Arul Soosai, Principal of the school and facilitated and moderated by Ranjan K Baruah of NEYF. Various career opportunities were discussed by the resource person apart from providing information to students about their dream profession. Al together 60 students participated in the programme and they interacted with the resources person and got information on various requirements for becoming successful in life. NEYF and St Xavier’s shall organise more of such programme for the students in the locality in coming days as this kind of programme helps the students in their career planning.

Jesuits are doing marvellous job in Dima Hasao District. They have done so much for the children in such a short span of time. I feel so happy to know that the North East Youth Foundation is helping them out in their own humble way. Hope many more good people will extend their helping hands in the days to come.

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has allocated the education portfolio to three ministers namely Dr Bhumidhar Barman, Gautam Bora and tourism minister Ajanta Neog.According to information, Dr Barman will look after higher education while Bora and Neog will be holding the elementary and technical education portfolios respectively. The northeastern region is running with a deplorable state of affairs if the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), 2007, is any indication. Making this startling revelation, the report says enrollment in Assam was found at more than 90 per cent and the attendance in schools was only at 70 per cent. The out-of-school students in Assam were found about 6.9 per cent and about 66 per cent schools did not have toilets and 40 per cent did not have access to potable water, the report added. The out-of-school figure in the age group of 6-14 years in Tripura was higher than the national average while in Meghalaya it was almost double the national average, says the report.
