50th Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Udalguri: reflection of unity and discipline
The 3rd day of 50th Bodo Sahitya Sabha,Udalguri session witnessed thousands and thousands of people visiting “Bwrigooma Fwthar”,the venue of the historic session.The ancient Bwrigooma of Udalgurihas been gripped by an ecstatic frenzy.It has emotionally been charged up with the recalling of the past.The whole atmosphere has a canopy of delight on the occasion of the session and has acquired a new identity -“Bwrigooma Fwthar”.Once upon a time,Udalguri and its adjoining areas up to Kalaigaon were under the influence of the Bhutias, who extracted revenue from the people ruled by Koch kings of Darrang.Finally the Koch king asked for the intervention of the Ahom kings,who annexed the Bhutia territory of Khalingduar up to the east of the Dhansiri river.
The entrance through which the Bhutias entered for trade to Assam were known as Duars (Doors)It is known that there were seven such Duars.The prominent among the Duars are -Khalingduar,Chariduar,Bwrigoomaduar,Kuriaparaduar,Naa-matiduar.The entrance of Udalguri and its adjoining areas from Bhutan was Bwrigoomaduar. It is after 27 years of its glorious past that this Bwrigooma,Udalguri is hosting the 50 th session of Bodo Sahitya Sabha.With the help and intense service of different communities,the session is going usher in a new history is trying to tie all all the communities in one knot.For this reason Udalguri looks vibrant.A huge festive lookhas caste its spell over the whole Udalguri,a process of fostering goodwill and unity.
Hundreds of young boys and girls clad in traditional Bodo costume have taken over the charge of maintaining discipline.Unlike other programmes,you woun't need police help.Police are in standby mood only.The well behaved volunteer boys and girls are ready to help and guide anybody.The session has taught other organizations of Assam a good lesson of maintaining discipline and command.Smoking in public,chewing of beetle nuts or paan, drinking alcohol etc are vanished for these days.Selling and drinking alcohol is totally banned.Thanks to the oganising committee.
On the 3rd day on January 21,hoisting of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha flag by Kameswar Brahma,president,Bodo Sahitya Sabha marked the begining of the 3rd days programme followed by Homage paying ceremony by Rajen Khaklari;release of the souvenir by Derhasat Basumatari;felicitation to distinguished people;Jew Ram Bodo memorial seminar,conducted by Jagat Chandra Sargiary,Reader,GU;Mangal Chandi Brahma memorial special discussion on present day education system,which was inagurated by noted writer Harekrishna Deka, DGP,Assam Police; (Retd);Josef Daimari memorial poetic session,conducted by noted scholar Sarat Chandra Boro. Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri inaugurated the grand cultural evening at 7 PM.

A tiger from Orang National Park strayed out of the park through southern boundaryon the night of October 10. After crossing Brahmaputra it had reached Hama Char area and killed two cows and two buffaloes there. In a bid to garner fringe villagers' goodwill and cooperation, the authorities of Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park have formed 11 Eco Development Committees (EDCs) from amongst the peripheral villages. A software named “PIIM” has recently been developed for use in various dairy co-operaive societies and has been successfully applied by the Department of Dairy Development, Govt. Of Assam under RKVY (Rastriya Krishi Vikash Yogana).The department has applied the newly developed software for efficient functioning of the many dairy co-operative societies in the state.
