A large number of historical monuments are going to be extinct due to lack of proper maintenance by the Govt. and Archaeological Departments.
The historical Gorokhiya Dol situated in the bank of the Dikhow River at Nomati village of Nazira Sub-Division, Sivasagar District carries the sign of the glorious Ahom Kings.
The compound of this Dol is yet unfenced and it is surrounded by wild jungles. Now it become a safe shelter for the antisocial elements.
A few days earlier, some suspected Bangladeshis have stolen a golden idol from this Gorokhiya Dol of about 2 kg weight.
In our investigation it has come to the light that Mr. Lal Baj whose phone No. is 9854562276 and his brother-in-law Jamai, whose phone no. is 9854954647, both were living as tenants in the Nomati village of Nazira, have stolen the idol by digging inside the Gorokhiya Dol about 9 to 11 pm on last 13th August 2007 and fled to Tezpur.
Officials of the State Archaeological Dept. has visited the said place on last 25th August 2007, an investigation is going on in this matter.

A new Anchalik AASU Committe of Nazira was formed in a general meeting on November Sunday. Hemanto Saikia and Sakir Ahmed were selected as the president and secretary of the committee. Manik Gogoi, president of the AASU, Sivasagar district and Manab Hazarika were also present in the meeting as observers.

A group of local residents of Nazira has formed a society called "Human Welfare Society" with a 13-member committee. P.C. Baruah and Md. Nasar Khan were selected as the President and General Secretary of the Society. The group has been extending their services since last 2006 for medical treatment to mentally retired persons n Nazira sub-division apart from other social welfare works.
Pragati Maina Parijat, Nazira organised a 15-day Children's Drama Workshop on July1 to 15, 2012 at Srimanta Sankardev Sanghs Namghar. More than 70 children took part in the workshop. Lakuwa reporter of Guwahati-based television chanel DY365, was physically assaulted by some miscreants at Bihubar, Nazira on Tuesday. They brutally attacked him and smash his camera. International Women Day observed by NGO Pragati and Pragoti Mahila Mancha at Nazira Natya Mandir on March 8. In this occation a seminer was held on "Epual Rights of Women".
