In the last asssembly election, the Asom Gana Parished was unable to get a single seat in upper Assam along with other 12 district of Assam. Under Golaghat district - Sarupather, Bokakhat, Khumtai and Golaghat LACs are captured by the INC. It is mentionalbe that the Golaghat is the birth place of AGP. Sivasagar district: In Sivsagar constituency INC candidate Pranab Gogoi defeted his rival AGP candidate Ramu Chaliha by 17 thousand votes. In Nazira constituency INC candidate Debobrat Saikia defeted his rival of CPI Durpad Borgohain around 30 thousand votes. INC candidate anjan dutta won by 327 votes defeating nearest rival AGP candidate Pradip Hazarika in Amguri.
In Thoura LAC Sushanta Borgohain, Sarat Borkakoti at Charaideo LAC and Sarat Saikia at Mahmora LAC won - all INC candidates.
