Mass rally for separate Bodoland

All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has added another spine on their demands of creating a separate state of Bodoland by organizing a mass rally at New Delhi on 28th October.. The mass rally started from Ram Leela Maidan and ended at Parliament Street. A memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister on demand of creation of separate state of Bodoland, bringing solutions related to various educational problems, making an arms and violence free region and also for safety and security of the people which was received by Pritvi Raj Chavan, Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office led by ABSU president Mr. Pramod Boro. The delegation also submitted another memorandum to Union HRD ministry which was received by Smt Daggubati Purandeswari, Minister of State for HRD. One of the important clauses in the memorandum to ministry of HRD is inclusion of Bodo as MIL in Delhi University and in JNU.

ABSU since its inception in 1967 has been involved with raising voices for inclusion of the Bodos and other tribes of Assam in the process of rapid progress of the nation. But despite its uniting effort to claim the legitimate socio economic and political rights, the step motherly attitude of sate of Assam has ensured continuation of sheer deprivation and exploitation in all the spheres that have historically been perpetuated against the Bodo community by the ruling elite. After failing with all the options, ABSU was forced to launch the famous democratic movement for a separate state of Bodoland on the 2nd march, 1987.

“The vigorous movement by us in the past resulted into two consecutive political agreement that are been signed by Union of India, State of Assam and different organizations representing the people of Bodoland, the first agreement has been denounced by the people of Bodoland unanimously and second agreement has not been able to meet the long cherished aspirations of the Bodos, said Pramod Boro, President of ABSU. He also stated that ABSU through its 42nd Annual Conference in February 2010 has revoked the earlier decision to suspend all movement for political demands and has once again resolved to carry on with its mass democratic movement to achieve its various demands.
