Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

Police on Tuesday have arrested a high level officer of the state animal husbandry and veterinary department accusing him of killing a deer at the Amchang Reserved Forest. According to information, deputy director of the department Dr Shivaji Baruah was arrested after he was caught red handed over by local residents of Amchang. The Centre has a scheme worth Rs 96,59,00,000 for conservation and development of altogether 135 sattra in Assam, mostly, in Majuli.Disclosing this, Union minister for tourism informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the Centre has received a detailed project proposal for conservation and development of 135 sattra was received from the Assam Government.She also said these institutions have been identified in the Ist Phase of the Scheme for their development adding that the project proposal has been forwarded to Planning Commission for its consideration.The ministry of culture has suggested constitution of an Expert Group consisting of eminent members from various fields such as Archeology...
Fifty new members to Rajya Sabha, including three from Assam were sworn in today by Chairman Hamid Ansari. The MPs from Assam who took the oath were Congress candidate and Assam Congress president Bhubneswar Kalita, BPP(H) leader Biswajit Doimary and AGP candidate and former Union minister Birendra Prasad Baishya. A civilian was killed during a joint operation against ULFA by police and CRPF in Moranhat under Sivasagar district on Monday. Noted litterateur and peace broker Mamoni Roisom Goswami has said that ULFA has again expressed its desire to revive the peace process. Talking to a private satellite news channel Goswami said ULFA commander –in-Chief Paresh Baruah conveyed his outfit’s willingness for talk while he was talking to her over telephone. But she said the question of sovereignty has still to be considered. She urged the banned outfit to shun the path of violence for a peaceful Assam.
