Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

The army killed two more terrorists at an encounter near Namsai along Assam-Arunachal border early in the morning on Tuesday. According to information, the encounter with the Army's Dah Division took place at a distance of 10 kilometers in the north of Namsai and the rebels have yet to be identified. A pistol, a revolver and 10 kgs of IED have been recovered from them. Details are awaited.
The over all flood situation in the north Assam district of Lakhimpur is remaining unchanged and army jawans are still in the rescue operation and more and more marooned peoples are shifting to safer places. A vast tracts of human habitation and farmland have been submerged and over ten-lakh people have been affected by the flood where the unofficial death toll is said to be 19. Five people were reportedly washed away by the river Ranganadi and their bodies are yet to be found. Boats and rafts were deployed by the army to transport people sheltering on roof tops to relief camps set up in highlands, schools and colleges. The Centre is drawing up a massive plan to boost trans border trade in the North East with the neighbouring countries.Addressing the reporters on Sunday, DoNER minister mani Shankar Aiyer said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan will unveil an ambitious programme to expedite the pace of socio-economic development of the north eastern region. Altogether four hardcore ULFA militants were killed at a fierce fighting with army at Kanubari along the Assam-Nagaland border in Sivasagar district. According to information, acting on a tip off, army conducted a raid at the area where a few ULFA cadres were basing for the last couple of days. The deceased ULFA cadres have yet to be identified. The cofferdam of the 2000 MW Subansiri Hydropower Project has breakage at around 11.30 AM this morning. Due to this, water level at the Subansiri riverbed has suddenly risen up and washed away several huts located at the bank of the river. More than 100 villages are affected in the downstream of the river. Panigaon is the worst effected area. There is no news of any casualty so far.
