In a bid to sensitise people on good governance for sustainable development through effective human resource development, an awareness programme was held at Batarhat in Kamrup (Rural District) 23 December.. The programme was organized by Advent Education and Welfare Society in collaboration with Maulana Azad Institute of Asian Studies from New Delhi. The awareness programme dealt on good governance and human resource development. In the interaction cum participatory programme resources persons interacted with the participants. It is to be mentioned that most of the participants discussed and shared their understanding from their perspectives and understanding on the panchyat and their functions. Most of the people shared that they are not aware regarding various government schemes which are supposed to be available for the benefit of the rural people. The programme was moderated by Smrity Dehu Rajkhowa and Ranjan K Baruah. There was also talk on Right to Information Act which was delivered by Sabin Das. Participants gave positive feedback after attending the programme as they become aware on various tools through which they can take part in bringing change in the society.

In a bid to sensitize young people on issues like climate change Youth Alliance for Climate (YAC) organised a popular talk on climate change at GODWINS English School at Sarusajai on 8th May for the students of the school. SMILE Film Festival organised by Indo Global Social Service Society has began in the town yesterday. ‘Soldiers in Sarong’, a documentary by Lokendra Arombam was shown in the festival.
