Assam Cruises get coveted tourism award

Good news. Assam Cruises on the river Brahmaputra wins the coveted Tour of the Year Destination Development Awards in Japan. Operated by private sector Assam Bengal Navigation (ABN) cruise won the prize for promoting Brahmaputra river cruises on luxurious boats M V Charaidew and M V Sukapha for the Japanese market. According to information, the award was given by Japan Association of Travel Agents recently at the JATA World Congress in Tokyo.


The ABN's first river cruise was on Brahmaputra in 2003 and subsequent cruises were on Hoogly river in West Bengal began from 2005. The luxury river boats 'Charaidew' was commissioned with 12 air-conditioned en-suite cabins followed by the near identical 'Sukapha' in 2006.

Tinsukia: Army operating in Tinsukia district escaped a major bid when suspected ULFA militants tried to blow up a powerful grenade on a convoy but missed the target narrowly. Army’s 6 Jammu Kashmir Rifle’s troops were on petrol when this incident occurred. The incident occurred near Bordubi Tea Estate under Domdooma police station in Tinsukia District at 11:30PM on Thursday. Doomdooma : Suspected ULFA militants killed a SULFA man Pranab Moran at Kerani Gaon near Kardoiguri, under Domdooma police station at 9.30 PM on Wednesday according to police sources. A group of two to three youths came to the grocery shop owned by Pranab just as he was about to sleep. The youths knocked on the door and asked for a packet of bread. When he opened the door to give them the packet they fired on him and flew away. Military personal stationed nearby rushed to the spot after they heard firing and brought him to the local hospital. Diphu : Heavily armed militants belonging to Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) and United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), on Wednesday night, gunned down at least 9 persons all Bihari migrant workers in Karbi Anglong. Guwahati : There has been a bomb blast at Hengerabari near Dispur capital complex at 3.25 PM on Wednesday.Police say that three persons have been injured in this blast. Lakhipur ( Cachar ) : Suspected Dimasa militants had killed three innocent civilians at Hari Nagar under Lakhipur police station in Cachar district on Tuesday evening. According to the police a group of 12/13 armed youths had entered the Bazaar at about 8.30 PM and opened fire indiscriminately. Three people were killed and several others were injured.
