An humble appeal to animal lovers of the world
The tragic death of another mother wild elephants in Udalguri district has revealed the failure of forest and civil administration to control unabated killing of wild elephants in Udalguri district.A 7 feet tall and 18 years old mother wild elephant was electrocuted again at the same village on September 28 at 11 pm.It has been suspected that irate villagers could have electrocuted the mother wild elephant in protest against the arrest of the two villagers two days back accused in the charge killing the young tusker on September 25. More than a thousand villagers assembled at the place at 11 am next day on September 29 to stage demonstration in front of D.N.Hazarika, Circle Officer, Harisinga Revenue Circle; Bankim Sarma, DFO, Dhansiri Division ;Dr.K.Chamua, VAS,Tangla and OC Paneri police station demanding immediate release of the arrested persons and govt. relief to the victims. They alleged that paddy field of around 30 to 40 bighas had been damaged the previous night by a herd of 50 strong wild elephants. Police and SSB jawans had to be deployed at the site to control the irate mob. It was really too sad to watch milk oozing out from the udder of the dead mother elephant, sufficient to indicate that the killed mother had a very young calf.
Animal lovers of the state including WWF have condemned the killings of the elephants and requested people to maintain peace. They urged the Chief Minister of Assam and local minister Rihan Daimari immediately to take steps to check both the killings and corruptions of the forest officials resulting loss of huge number of wild elephants in the state.Animal lovers all over the world must come forward to rescue the helpless wild elephants in Assam, India.
