Nagaon: An evening of cultural extravaganza
The people of Nagaon recently witnessed a cultural evening on Sunday, July 19, which is purely an extravaganza offering mix of song, music, dance and play i.e; a complete cultural show encashing all form of arts in one. The evening was dedicated to Bangla poet Rabindra Nath Tagore and Assamia literature icon Bishnu Prasad Rabha on the occasion of their birth anniversaries. The evening was held in Nagaon Bangali Sammelani Audotarium to its full capacity located in the main city area of town M G Road. As the evening was truly an experience of all form of cultural round-up starting with Rabindra Sangeet comprising both songs and dance items, the credit for organizing such a beautiful event goes to Indian People’s Theatre Association(IPTA), Nagaon chapter and “Natyanjali” , a city based dance organization, who jointly takes all the pain to arrange such a fusion program. Lastly, but not the least one is one play too is enacted by IPTA members. The group dance was a treasure to see primarily due to tender age particapants taking the stage ahead with their preparation and dedicated efforts. The show was sponsored by BSNL, Nagaon office, which is good sign for cultural body to get breathe by corporate involvement in much larger scale in near future.

The pre Bihu celebration seems to be changed from theatre to dance festival here in Nagaon with just before Rongali Bihu local dance institute "Sutrahar" plans for 2 days 'Dance Festival' beginning on 10 April at District Library Auditorium, Nagaon.
On first day of festival alongwith 'Sutradhar', "Okonpuror Okoni', Ojaan Deshor' and 'Green Room' will be staged as danced based show. On second day ' Naachu Aaha', 'Shree Krishna' and 'Sutradhar' will be part of group dance performance. The whole concept, direction and choreography will be done by Gourav Kr Hazarika under presentation by Gautam Kr Hazarika.

As the Rongali Bihu is approaching fast, so the left out theatre troups are trying their level best to complete show enlisted in calendar before arrival of peak summer. Latest to join the bandwagon here in outer Nagaon area is 'Sanjivani Theatre' which is slated to held 3 days show starting on 6 April'10 at Polytechnic Khalpathar, Panigaon. In the aid of Ratanpur Kolongpar Harimandir development the Mukutmani Saikia's 'Vastur Sabha', Samendra Burman's 'Dhumahar Sesat', Ajit Barthakur's 'Taka Phuta Gari' and Aishwarya Kakati's 'Herus Phuler Suwas' are going to entertain local theatre enthusiastics. The music will be by duo Nand Banerjee- Munin Goswami.
The semi-urban belt of Nagaon is continued to witness the variety theatrical presentation by multiple troupes and latest in the band-wagon to join the club are ‘Rajmahal Theatre’ with Kapil Bora as lead actor in its show.
