UPA with common people, says Dr Singh

The Prime Minister claims that the UPA government worked hard to fulfill its promises and formulated policies which would benefit of the common man.

Dr Singh said that the work is still incomplete and efforts have to be made to bail out India from poverty with the central government's flagship programmes like NREGA and NRHM.

He said the steps are on by the UPA government for the welfare of minorities like formation of a new ministry for minority affair, PM's 15-point programme and identification of minority concentrated districts for carrying out special development works.

The Prime Minister also assured the people of the state of "renewed attention to the recurring flood problem in Assam and protection of the Majuli Island.

Before that addressing reporters while on election campaign in Assam, he said that Kalyan Singh "did what he did" despite his affidavit to the Supreme Court that he will protect the disputed 16th century structure.

When asked to comment on BJP leader LK Advani, the PM said that he doesn’t want to prolong the verbal duel.
