Seminar on wildlife crime

Nature's Friends Club, an environmental organization from Dhemaji had organized a seminar on abatement of wildlife crime through community participation at its office premises at Kachari Pathar near Botikur Tiniali (Dhemaji) on 3rd January. The talk was delivered by Ajoy Kr Das, lawyer from Guwahati who is also associated with the legal cell of Aaranyak, a biodiversity conservation group of the north east. He spoke elaborately on various crimes related to wildlife and how one can take help of the law to punish the guilty. Moderating the talk Ranjan K Baruah, youth activist appealed to all the environmental organization of the district to work united. Representatives from Megamix Nature Club and Natures Beckon also attended the programme and shared their experiences of working with the environment in the district of Dhemaji. The seminar was attended by teachers, journalists, farmers, entrepreneurs apart from students.

Some memebers of the Natures Friends Club are being disturbed by some people who are directly or indirectly associated with capturing and killing turtles. Most of the members are students in schools and colleges. I would like to request all the nature lovers to support the group so that they can be successful in their mission. I am really impressed by the effort done by Natures Friend Club, Aaranyak, Megamix and Natures Beckon. I am really impressed about Ranjan Kr. Barua, who is a dynamic youth activist, and is able to bring the matter in international , national, and regional forums.I as a nature lover extend heartfelt support for the cause. There is a need of enthuasiastic lawyer like Ajoy Kr. Das who practices beyond court and chamber premises............. Sompa, Nature lover.

The ASDC has rushed an eight member delegation to New Delhi on Tuesday to reiterate the demand for an autonomous state covering both North Cachar and Karbi Anglong districts. Again poaching has rocked the Kaziranga National Park on Monday night. The body of the rhino was spotted at the Bagori range on Tuesday morning. The poachers took away the horn after killing the rhino with 303 rifles. The incident took place hardly 24 hours after forest minister Rockybul Hussain suggested a slew of measures to stop poaching in the state’s sanctuaries. The park authority restricted the entry of media people who rushed to the sport when the message was spreading like wildfire. This is the fifth rhino to be poached this year itself.
