Nature's Friends Club, an environmental organization from Dhemaji had organized a seminar on abatement of wildlife crime through community participation at its office premises at Kachari Pathar near Botikur Tiniali (Dhemaji) on 3rd January. The talk was delivered by Ajoy Kr Das, lawyer from Guwahati who is also associated with the legal cell of Aaranyak, a biodiversity conservation group of the north east. He spoke elaborately on various crimes related to wildlife and how one can take help of the law to punish the guilty. Moderating the talk Ranjan K Baruah, youth activist appealed to all the environmental organization of the district to work united. Representatives from Megamix Nature Club and Natures Beckon also attended the programme and shared their experiences of working with the environment in the district of Dhemaji. The seminar was attended by teachers, journalists, farmers, entrepreneurs apart from students.

I am really impressed by the effort done by Natures Friend Club, Aaranyak, Megamix and Natures Beckon. I am really impressed about Ranjan Kr. Barua, who is a dynamic youth activist, and is able to bring the matter in international , national, and regional forums.I as a nature lover extend heartfelt support for the cause. There is a need of enthuasiastic lawyer like Ajoy Kr. Das who practices beyond court and chamber premises.............

ULFA steps up strikes a week before its foundation day. A BSF man was injured when ULFA militants ambushed a patrol party in Goalpara district of Assam on Friday.
The ambush took place at Dudhnoi in the evening. The patrol party was attacked by the anti-talk faction of ULFA while on the way to the BSF camp. The injured BSF man was shifted to the Goalpara Civil Hospital.
Assam seems to have improved on a few vital fronts. According to the provisional census data released in Guwahati on Friday, 44.1% of households avail banking services, as against 20.5% as reported in the previous Census. In the rural areas, 38.3 % people avail banking services and figure in urban areas is over 75%.
Over 66 percent of households resided in homes having walls made of grass, thatch or bamboo. But, 74.2% houses had roofs made of GI, metal or asbestos sheets.

Three city based journalists have been selected for the next GNRC Media Fellowship programme, who are expected to start their activities from early next month. Selected fellows namely Nituparna Rajbongshi (Asomiya Pratidin), Prafulla Kumar Das (Ajir Dainik Batori) and Azhar Alam (Pratah Khabar) will study and report about the healthcare facilities and its accessibility to common people in northeast India. “We are planning to start the fellowship program from the first week of April.
