Margherita, May 17: Bisa Mungdang Gam Singpho, the eldest son of the late Bisa Nong Singpho, was today coronated as the 8th Chief (Raja) of the Singpho community in a grand traditional ceremony attended by dignitaries, community leaders, and members of the public. The event brought together representatives from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Kachin State of Myanmar, reflecting the transboundary heritage of the Singpho people.
The day began with a solemn Buddhist ritual ceremony conducted by monks (Vantes) from both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, in accordance with the customs of the community. The coronation ceremony was followed by a public meeting that commenced with a tribute to the late Chief Bisa Nong Singpho, a revered leader known for his efforts in preserving the Singpho culture and promoting unity among diverse communities.
The public gathering witnessed the presence of several high-profile guests, including Bhaskar Sarma, MLA of Margherita, who attended as the Special Guest; Swapnil Pal, Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, as the Distinguished Guest; and Pratim Gogoi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Margherita, as the Honorable Guest. Members of the media and representatives from various communities were also present to witness the historic occasion.
Late Bisa Nong Singpho, who passed away on January 16, 2025, at the age of 76, was a respected figure and the former traditional chief of the Singpho people. His legacy includes decades of dedicated leadership, fostering cultural pride, and serving as a bridge between indigenous traditions and modern governance. His passing was mourned with state honors, highlighting his immense contribution to society.
The coronation of Bisa Mungdang Gam Singpho marks a new chapter in the leadership of the Singpho community, as he steps into his father's footsteps with the blessings of his people and the responsibility of continuing a legacy of unity, cultural preservation, and service.
