The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP), a prominent national social organization representing Gorkhas across India, has expressed its gratitude towards the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for issuing a notification that resolves the longstanding NRC Biometrics-Aadhaar linkage issue. This development is expected to bring relief to nearly 9.35 lakh individuals in Assam, including over one lakh Gorkhas who have been affected by the issue.
Nanda Kirati Dewan, the General Secretary of the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, Assam State Committee, expressed appreciation for the MHA’s intervention. He noted that the BGP has been actively engaging with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the MHA for over a decade, advocating for a resolution to the NRC biometrics issue, alongside addressing concerns related to the 'D Voters' cases and the ongoing NRC case in the Supreme Court.
“The notification is a significant step towards addressing the concerns of Gorkhas and other affected communities in Assam. We are hopeful that this will pave the way for further positive developments in the resolution of NRC-related matters,” Dewan stated.
