New Delhi: Congress has named Ripun Bora as the party candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha poll slated for March 31.
Bora, the incumbent, will be the candidate for the second seat who is expecting support from Congress, AIUDF, CPI and others.
The ruling party has already named Pabitra Margherita as the candidate for the first seat and skipped the name for the second seat since it lacks numbers.
Earlier BJP leaders claimed to have been preparing to name candidates for both seats. Congress also had a few rounds of hectic confabulation with AIUDF leadership.
The terms of Ripun Bora and Renee Narah will expire on April 2.

Barring a few stray incidents polling for the first phase of panchayat election are over registering a huge turn out in 8 districts on Wednesday.The polling began at 7 in the morning and ended at 3 in the afternoon where 28,680 candidates are in the fray in eight districts. The first phase will decide the fate of altogether 28,680 candidates in eight districts.
Of them, 643 candidates will contest for the post of Zilla Parishad member, 2,801 for Anchalik Panchayat member, 3,099 candidates for Gaon Panchayat president's post and 22,137 candidates filed their nominations for Gaon Panchayat membership.
First phase will include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Kaliabor, Nagaon Sadar, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. The counting of votes would take place on February 14 and February 15.
