Majuli: Political parties are giving last minute efforts in Majuli to woo the voters a day before the end of the heat and dust of electioneering for assembly by polls slated for March 7. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended as many as 10 rallies in the river island urging the voters of the largest river island to support party candidate Bhuban Gam.
The opposition Congress, AJP and Raijor Dal are equally escalating campaign with Chittranjan Basumatary as candidates. Congress state president Bhupen Bora, AJP president Lurinjoti Gogoi and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi have been holding joint rallies urging the people to beat BJP.
Over 60,000 voters will exercise their franchise on Monday to elect the new MLA. The by election was required after Sarbananda Sonowal quit as MLA and took oath as Union minister.
