Bir Chilagang Basumatary remembered
KOKRAJHAR: Peoples from all walks of life and organisation remembered Bir Chilagang Basumatary, now defunct founder chairman of Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT), towards the Bodoland movement, who revolt with arms for the separate state of Bodoland within India, on his 23th death anniversary being organised at the burial place Bir Chilagang Puri at Bongshigaon on Sunday in Kokrajhar district.
Local people thronged to paid floral tribute at the cemetery of Basumatary at Bongshigaon, was organized by Bir Chilagang Martyrs Tomb Development Committee, Bongshigaon.
Ramani Basumatary, widow of late Basumatary paid floral tribute followed by leaders from various organisations. Basumatary survived by wife, two sons and a daughter. Basumatary was born on 1st February, 1959 at Bongshigaon and expired on June 28, 1997 due to prolonged illness.

KOKRAJHAR: Adhya sradhya of former MP Charan Narzary is going to be held at his Hatimata residence in Kokrajhar town on Sunday. Narzary breathed his last on July 23 due to age ailments.
He was the founding general secretary of the Plains Tribal Council of Assam (now defunct), former MLA from Kokrajhar east, former professor in Kokrajhar Govt College and associated with several organization. He was also well known writer in Bodo literature besides contributed a lot towards social uplifting in the region.
He was regarded as a prominent political leader among Bodo as well tribal peoples in the state. He born on 28th May in 1933 at Hatimata in Kokrajhar town.He was 86.

KOKRAJHAR: Security forces apprehended a hard-core cadre of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Saoraigwra faction (NDFB-S) on Friday from Samukha Nala area under Bishmuri police outpost in Kokrajhar district.
The arrested cadre was identified as Dipak Basumatary @ B. Dwibai @Jolo (23) of Maina Nagar near Bishmuri. He was a Myanmar trained hardcore NDFB(S) cadre of 42nd batch and a member of the Batha Group.
One 7.65 mm pistol, a magazine, two live rounds and cash 200 were recovered from his possession. Further investigation is on.
KOKRAJHAR: One person died in Kokrajhar due to Japanese Enchapalitis (JE) on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Rijendra Nath Brahma (72) of Patakata, Kokrajhar district.
Brahma was admitted to MRM hospital, Kokrajhar on Sunday. He breathed his last on Monday morning. Earlier, he was discharged from Apollo hospital Guwahati where he was treated for Japanese Enchapalitis. Brahma was a retired block education officer.

KOKRAJHAR: Four persons of a family died and three others have received serious injuries at a road mishap at Nimti national highways under Kalsini police station in Alipurduar of West Bengal on Monday morning.
The family hailed from Salakati Bazar of Kokrajhar district which had met accident with a truck while on their way to Kokrajhar from Jalpaiguri.
Their vehicle bound for Kokrajhar with registration no. AS18Y-0183 met a collision with a truck early this morning.

KOKRAJHAR: In a innovative well in the Sapkata River in Kokrajhar district where water flows from bottom to top attracts visitors. The well is located at Dhwrwmpur village near Athiabari under Serfanguri Police Station, nearly 60 Kms away from Kokrajhar district headquarters to the north.
According to villagers, a well was constructed by villagers of Dhwrwmpur and its adjoining areas in the Sapkata river in 1991 to produce drinking water.
The well is being a source of waters during the summer season which lasted for five months till September from May every year.

KOKRAJHAR: A five year old minor male boy was found at Kokrajhar railway station in Kokrajhar.The boy was today produced before the child welfare committee(CWC) Kokrajhar and has sent to child destination home at Anthaigwlao Chandrapara in Kokrajhar.

Kokrajhar: A total 144 relief camps have been opened for 125,181 flood affected peoples in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts in BTAD region.
Altogether 86,500 flood affected peoples are taking shelter at 120 relief camps across the Kokrajhar district which are severely affected in the flash floods.
Even though,river waters are now low,yet affected are getting reported from various areas in the district.
The flood waters have washed out several areas in three subdivisions like Kokrajhar,Gossaigaon and Parbatjhora.
Relief materials are providing with necessary initiatives among the camp inmates set up at various places in the district.

Kokrajhar: Former MP and academician Charan Narzary passed away on Tuesday morning at 4.30 am at a private hospital in Guwahati.
He was admitted to the hospital few months back. He was 87.
Narzary was lecturer in Kokrajhar Govt College, and MP from Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency. He was also a writer. He was also founder general secretary of the Plains Tribal Council of Assam (PTCA).
Born on 28th May,1933 at Hatimata in Kokrajhar, Narzary was regarded as prominent political leader among tribals of the state.
