Akhil Gogoi held in new case

Sivasagar: The Dibrugarh police again arrested Akhil Gogoi immediately after the peasant leader stepped out of the Sibsagar Central Jail on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters, the RTI activist, who was arrested amid escalating protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. 2019 dared CM Sarbananda Sonowal to read the writings on the wall saying that he also might face the consequences.

"I am ailing. I am multiple diseases and instead of releasing me police have been arresting me on a number of cases " said Gogoi.

Gogoi further rued" my mother's condition is very bed.  She had not been able to undergo an eye surgery in my absence."

Notably,  the authorities are contemplating to free a number of prisoners. But they have not considered the peasant leader.

LDP chief Pradyut Bora has strongly demanded Gogoi's release in view of the prevailing situation who on Tuesday procured bail from a lower court in Sivasagar.
