New Delhi: Altogether 14 Assam Congress leaders from minority community on Wednesday moved Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh alleging that minority people of the state are being harassed in the neighboring states of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
They called on Dr Singh and submitted a memorandum urging him to look in to the serious allegations saying some active organizations in these neighboring states are curtailing the rights to liberty, right to earn livelihood and right to move freely to any part of India of poor people belonging to the minority community of Assam.
They say allege that citizenship documents, inner-line permits etc of a large number of minority people from Assam working in the states are being forcibly taken away branding them as Bangladeshi nationals.
They further urged Dr Singh to issue necessary directives to the ministry of home affairs to end this conflict saying these minority citizens from Assam are being harassed. They term it a case of curtailment of fundamental rights. “The state governments are remaining a mute spectator,” they rue in the memorandum.
The signatories of the memorandum are Dr Nazrul Islam, Nurjamal Sarkar, Rockybul Hussain, Dildar Rezza, Kutub Ahmed Mazumdar, Abu Taher Bepari, Dr Motior Rahman Mandal, Abdul Hai Nagri, Abedur Rahman Mandal, Abdul Khalaque, Afzalur Rahman, Ilias Ali, Siddique Ahmed and Mahibul Haque.

The All Assam Adivasi Students Association gives a 48 hour deadline for the government to clear the whereabouts of 32 protesters who they claim, have been missing from the violence spot on the Shameful Saturday.
