Awareness meeting held on witch hunting
An awareness campaign was organized at Modati playground, Kazigaon, Kokrajhar on Thursday on superstition in the society. The progarmme was organised by Kokrajhar police under project prahari to create awareness on witch hunting and superstition. “Project Prahari” is an initiative by Assam Police for participatory development and people friendly policing to fight social maladies and deprivation.
Mentionable that acting on a telephonic information, February 19 afternoon, regarding confining and assaulting of three persons in Modati village by some villagers suspecting them as witch at the nearby forest, polcie rushed to the spot and rescued the victims namely Nirjoy Rabha (50), Parimal Rabha (47) and Sarothi Bala Rabha (44) with grievous injuries on their persons. They were immediately admitted to Dhubri Civil Hospital for better treatment. Nirjoy Rabha succumbed to his injuries on way to Gauhati Medical College Hospital.
A case was registered at Kazigaon polcie station No. 10/2019 U/S 120(B)/447/342/326/307/302 IPC, R/W Sec. 4/5/7/9 of Assam Witch Hunting (Prohibition, Prevention and Protection) Act, 2015 and being investigated. As many as 17 accused persons have been arrested so far in connection.

At least three persons died and several others received injuries due to the lightning struck at Anthaibari under Bengtol police outpost in Chirang district on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the source, three persons have died and several other people from Anthaibari area received serious injuries due to heavy lightning this afternoon while people were watching a football match at Anthaibari playground.
The injured persons were immediately rushed to the Bengtol missionary hospital where three persons were declared brought dead.
The deceased were identified as Dilip Mushahary (40), Rayanti Basumatary (40) and Mangkeswar Basumatary (45).

Family members of NLFB leader M Batha have expressed their happiness because M Batha and other members of the militant outfit returned to the mainstream on Thursday
M Batha is originally from Daloabari village of Kokrajhar district.
