NH blockade for Bodoland statehood

Kokrajhar:  Surface transport services across the BTAD and adjacent areas along the 31C National Highway remained disrupted on Wednesday due to road blockade by All Bodo Students Union (ABSU),National Democratic Front of Boroland-Progressive(NDFB-P) and Peoples Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement (PJACBM) in support of separate Bodoland statehood.

 The road blockade was staged at Karigaon National Highway in Kokrajhar district which was started from 5 in the morning till  12 noon.

Thousands of  protestors with banners, placards sat on the national highway demanding early creation of Bodoland statehood under Article 2 & 3 of Indian constitution. Several hundred vehicles have been reportedly stranded at various places on the road in the region. Leaders from Twipraland of Tripura have also extended their solidarity by joining hands in the blockade. Many leaders of the Bodo organisations, apart from ABSU president Promod Boro, ex MP and UPPL president UG Brahma, ex MP SK Bwiswmuthiary,leaders from Bodo sahitya sabha, Bodo Harimu Afad, Boro Somaj, NDFB-P, PJACBM addressed the agitation and urged the government to solve the Bodoland issue through political dialogue as soon as possible. 

ABSU president Promod Boro strongly criticised the BJP led NDA government at centre for not holding tripartite talks as well solution of the Bodoland issue. The Bodos are son of soil,but government never want welfare as well development of the Bodos, so till today Bodos are deprived from getting constitutional rights. He has warned for strong mass movement to seek Bodoland statehood through the political dialogue. He slammed the government for tactically delayed of the Bodoland issue. He has demanded early solution of the Bodoland issue. 

'We supported BJP party during the 2014 parliamentary elections, but after reaching their government formation at the centre BJP party forgot all promises', Boro said. 

'Creation of separate Bodoland statehood is the ultimate goal of the movement groups.Movement will be continued till achieved of Bodoland statehood ',Promod Boro said. 

National Highway blockade movement will continue till May 6 simoultaneously starting from Kokrajhar today,Chirang on May 3,Bsksa(May 4),Udalguri (May 5) and Sonitpur on May 6.

President of All Tripura Students Association Alok Jamatia while participating the blockade demanded early creation of smaller states in the country to meet good governance. He has urged the government to take bold step to solve the statehood issues through the tripartite talks under the Indian constitution. 

'We are coming here to express our solidarity to the Bodoland demand issue and continue our supports', said Jamatia. 

Former MP UG Brahma termed that BJP party had put false promises to the Bodoland issue in their election manifesto.He alleged that due to insincerity actitudes from government the Bodos movement groups are again coming out with agitation programmes to put pressure for the Bodoland statehood. He has slammed the government said that government should avoid insincerity attitude on Bodos,otherwise face more agitations in coming days. 

'BJP led NDA government totally failed while fulfilling hopes and aspirations of the Bodos as promised.Come with positive steps to solve the Bodoland statehood issue in immediate way ',Brahma said.
