GUWAHATI: Assam Congress legislators on Thursday staged protest in front of the state legislative assembly against the soaring prices of petrol and diesel across the country.
Led by Opposition leader Debobrata Saikia, the legislators thronged the entrance gate of the House and flashed banners and playcards alleging government failure of the government to rein in the fuel prices even after a dip in the international crude oil market.
“We want to send a message. The government has failed to curb the rising petrol and diesel prices even after the slow down in the international crude oil prices. Why the Centre has allowing the common people to suffer?,” said Saikia.
The rising petrol and diesel prices have fuelled the prices of other commodities where the commoners have been bearing the brunt.
