IMPHAL, Mar 31 (NENA) Chief Minister Nongthongbam Biren has on Saturday said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe into the missing case of 56 pistols from Arms Kote of 2nd Manipur Rifles.
“The incident poses a serious threat to both state and national security,” Biren told a press conference at CM Secretariat.
The Manipur Chief Minister said the missing case of weapons from Arms Kote of 2nd MR is a matter of serious concern and expressed suspicion that there are political conspiracies in the case.
“The government has already written to the NIA to carry out a thorough investigation into the case. The missing of weapons is a case of treachery,” he said.
The state cabinet in a meeting yesterday decided to hand over the case to the investigating agency, CM Biren informed.
Biren said that the arms were brought in to the state in September 2014. An FIR was filed at Imphal Police Station after Commanding Officer of 2nd MR registered a case regarding the incident.
He also informed that 5 persons, including 2 personnel of 2nd MR, have been arrested over the incident.
Cabinet Ministers, BJP MLAs, police and civil officials were present at the press conference.
