BIJOY K BURAGOHAIN JORHAT: Hundreds of people hit the streets in Golaghat demanding Justice for the minor girl in Dhing whom three miscreants gangraped and burnt alive on Friday afternoon.
Organized by the Golaghat unit of Asom Premi Yuva Chatra Samaj, over 500 local residents spilled to the roads asking the authority to immediately arrest the main culprit Zakir Hussain, who is still on the run.
The participating protestors demanded capital punishment for the perpetrators saying that this measure is the only way to firmly deal with these raising cases of rape and murder.
The incident took place in Lalung Gaon where Zakir along with two juvenile gangraped a minor girl inside her house and burnt her alive who succumbed to injuries on the way to Guwahati.

Barring a few stray incidents polling for the first phase of panchayat election are over registering a huge turn out in 8 districts on Wednesday.The polling began at 7 in the morning and ended at 3 in the afternoon where 28,680 candidates are in the fray in eight districts. The first phase will decide the fate of altogether 28,680 candidates in eight districts.
Of them, 643 candidates will contest for the post of Zilla Parishad member, 2,801 for Anchalik Panchayat member, 3,099 candidates for Gaon Panchayat president's post and 22,137 candidates filed their nominations for Gaon Panchayat membership.
First phase will include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Kaliabor, Nagaon Sadar, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. The counting of votes would take place on February 14 and February 15.
