Post poll violence keeps Tripura on the boil

AGARTALA:An orgy of post poll violence keeps Tripura on the boil a couple of days BJP-IPFT alliance decimated CPM in the assembly polling marking an end to the 25 year old regime of the Left Front.  

 Many Left workers and leaders have alleged attack by BJP and IPFT workers after the party suffered huge lost. An irate BJP allegedly demolished two statues of Lenin in the north eastern state during the last 48 hours forcing the Centre to step in.

 According to allegations, BJP and IPFT workers thronged a public space in Sabroom and razed a statue on Tuesday. The incident took place a day after some other irate people on Monday demolished a statue of Lenin using an excavator at Belonia in South Tripura triggering escalating acrimony across the nation.  The stunning incidents have forced prime minister Narendra Modi to talk to Union home minister Rajnath Singh who has asked the states to firmly deal with these incidents.     

Singh asked Tripura governor Tathagata Roy and state DGP A K Shukla to bring the situation under control. Police have yet to arrest the miscreants who pulled down the statues.
