The alliance has wrested 41 seats, ten more than the magic mark 31.

Initially, Left and BJP-IPFT alliance moved neck and neck putting both the camp in deep dilemma which did not last long as after a couple of rounds BJP took an unstoppable lead weakening the prospect of the ruling CPM which had to remain satisfied with 18 seats while a fragile Congress failed to open an account.

Polling was countermanded in one constituency in the 60-member assembly after the death of a CPI-M candidate a week before the February 18 election. Meanwhile, BJP in rank and file have started celebrating the landslide victory by singing and dancing splashing gulal a day after the holi.
