GUWAHATI: Assam and its people shared the joy of Holi as the festival of colours commences along with other parts of the nation marking the advent of the season of spring on Thursday.
Armed with waters and gulals of various colours, the Hindus of all walks of life have come out of their homes to join the occasion.
The aged ones are thronging the temples splashing the colours among the crowds while the youths and youngs on the road are sharing the joy of the annual festival.
“This is our occasion to celebrate. It marks the advent of spring. Lets make the occasion a joyful one,” said Tanmoy, a minor school goer in Guwahati.
With water pipes Amit Singh is splashing gulal at the commuters on the road much to their delight in Jorhat from early in the morning. Talking to www.assamtimes.org, the Class VII boy with the Jorhat Govt’s School said he was leading a group of young ones to play keeping in mind the restrictions imposed by the authority. “Its our festival. How cant we remain silent. Let’s play Holi.”
Many temples across the state are teeming with the revelers who are playing holi with traditional religious fervor. Doul Govinds temple by the side of the Brahmaputra in North Guwahati is hosting the festival in a big way in presence of a huge crowd.
Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with many other parties, organizations and individuals have wished the people on the occasion.
