KOHIMA: Assembly polling is over in Nagaland with a moderate turnout even after partially marred by an orgy of violence on Tuesday where nearly 70 per cent electorates in 59 constituencies have decided on the fate of 195 candidates in the 60 member assembly.
The polling started on a dull note. But by 12 noon the voters in large number started waiting in serpentine queue to vote in front of the polling booths even after marked by an orgy of violence where one person died and many others injured.
One person sustained injury when a mysterious bomb exploded at a booth in Tizit village in Mon district just half a hour before the commencement of the voting hour leaving a village head man injured. But the polling was peaceful.
One person died and a couple of others sustained injury when a group of NPF activists clashed with their NDPP rivals in Akuluto constituency of Zunheboto district.
Some other minor incidents of stone pelting are reported in many places which in no way disrupted the polling.
Polling started at 7 in the morning to conclude at 4 in the afternoon. But EVM and VVPAT in many booth refused to function properly forcing the authority to extend the voting duration. In nearly 100 booths voters kept waiting in front of the booths beyond 4 in the afternoon.
