No respite from riot in lower Assam: 2 more killed in Dalgaon

Two more persons were killed at Dalgaon in Darrang district in police firing for dispersing an some miscreants on Tuesday midnight.

According to information, the incident took place at Chahgaon around 11 midnight when police tried to disperse some miscreants with firing when they were trying to torch a village. Two persons died on the spot. On the others hand, following this the panic-stricken local people have left the 3rd APTF camp at Sajuabeel.
There are reports of some more house being set ablaze at Nahoroni village under Majbat police station on Tuesday.

A group clash also took place at Khandikar village in Goreswar. 3 persons were injured in the clash. However security forces managed to drive both groups apart. In Tangla area police recovered 2 dead bodies from a paddy field.

Another body was recovered in Rongagarh, of Udalguri. In Tangla and Koilagaon the army conducted flag march.

Meanwhile, the Centre has rushed more security forces to quell the situation. Ten additional BSF companies will be pumped in to the lower Assam districts.
Of these 3 companies will be deployed in Udalguri, 2 in Darrang, 2 in Sonitpur, 2 in Kokrajhar and 1 company in Chirang district. Even as the death toll has touched 60, the number of displaced has crossed 85 thousand.

In its desperate attempt to save the face, the Assam Congress said violence was increasing by day. Reacting to the allegations APCC President and Rajya Sabha member Bhubaneswar Kalita claimed the Congress government has always worked for bringing peace.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the army and para-military to maintain strict vigil in the violence-hit areas.

Strong measures have also been suggested against those spreading rumours and dealing firmly with miscreants.

Gogoi said the Assembly speaker has been asked to lead an all-party team to the affected districts to restore peace.

The chief minister appealed to all sections of people to maintain peace and not to be provoked by propaganda.

Seeing the situation in Assam I am reminded of a poem "O Captain! My Captain" written by Walt Whitman,where the poet brings out the saddest moment which the countrymen faced after being betrayed by their own master whom they once considered him as the saviour. The poem is applicable to the BTAD authority due to the developments taking place at present.In search of leader who can understand their cry the following verse is fitting especially for Mr. Mohilary who claims himself as the 'Saviour of Boros'. The cry of Boros says; "O Captain! Our Captain! Rise up and hear the cry of people who stands in need of your help; Rise up—for your people who have lost their own land. For you we call, eagerly faces turning to you. Here Captain! We say dear father! We’ve fallen victims of migrant Bangladeshis. But our captain does not answer, his lips still, ears deaf. Our father does not feel the need to help the needy; he has neither pulse nor will;

Deploying army and para-military forces is not going to heal the wounds of those affected in the recent clash. It will only lead to further escalation of violence in the area. It is high time for the Assam Government to take strong action against the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.The Chief Minister should not shirk his responsibility by blaming other parties, instead he should take necessary action before Assam becomes another Bangladesh.

Assam need a chief minister like Narendra Modi to prevent Assam become part of greater Bangladesh planned by this jehadis. Rest of country is progressing in economic front, industrialization but Assam is still in the stone age.

Gogoi on stock-taking visit to Dhubri

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is on a stock taking visit to Dhubri on Monday. During his visit to Dhubri he visited a few relief camps to and assured the refugees of all help to resettled soon. PC to review BTAD law and order

Chidambaram, who visited some relief camps in Kokrajhar and Chirang has instructed the police, civil and para military heavyweights to spare no pain to provide assistance to the refugees. Chidambaram, who arrived in Guwahati in the morning is scheduled to stay at the Raj Bhawan for the night.

Chidambaram visits refugee camps

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday meet the violence victims of Kokrajhar district and took stock of the situation prevailing in the BTAD district. During his visit, the Union home minister assured the refugees at the Titaguri High School of all possible assistance from the Centre. The Home Minister, who flew in from Guwahati in a special helicopter, met refugees in the camp at the here. Chidambaram was accompanied by Union Minister of state for Development of North Eastern Region Paban Singh Ghatowar and state Transport Minister Chandan Brahma.

P Chidambaram on visit to Kokrajhar

Union home minister P Chidambaram is in Kokrajhar on a two days visit to the violence-hit BTAD areas a week after ethnic clash claimed 60 lives in three district districts. The union minister landed at the Lokpriya Goipinath Bordploi International Airport at around 8-30 in the morning and then he left for Kokrajhar by an army helicopter. Accompanied by BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, Chidambaram is holding talks with the civil and police officials on duty. Later on Monday, he is slated to visited a few relief camps in Kokrajhar.

Assam shaking in mild tremor

An earthquake of moderate intensity shook Assam along with other north-east states on Sunday. The tremor was felt at 7-51 in the morning creating panic among the people. But there is no report of any casualty or damage. The quake, which had a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre in Myanmar. Panic stricken people in Guwahati started running out of the high rise buildings as soon as they came to feel the quake. The tremor was also felt in Itanagar, Guwahati, Agartala besides Kohima and Imphal.

Violence: PC to meet Gogoi and Patnaik

Home Minister P Chidambaram will arrive in Assam on a two visit to the violence-hit BTAD areas on Monday. Immediately after landing at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Chidambaram will straightly leave for Kokrajhar to take stock of the situation in the worst-hit district. He is also scheduled to review the security situation, relief and rehabilitation measures. Moreover, he is likely to visit a few refugee camps in Kokrjhar, Bijni uring his two days visit. He is likely to hold separate meetings with Governor J B Patnaik, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his council of Ministers.

Ensure safety: Gehlot tells Gogoi

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has asked his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi to ensure safety and security of the Rajasthani residing in the state. In his telephonic conversation to Gogoi on Sunday, Gehlot told the Gogoi that many Rajasthani people were living in the state and that their safety should be ensured. According to information, Gogoi assured Gehlot of best possible help to them.

Normalcy back to BTAD areas

Kokrjhar is limping back to normal along with Dhubri and Chirang. The district administration relaxed curfew in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. But night curfew will stay from 6 in the evening to 6 in the morning on Monday. There is no report of any fresh incident during the last 24 hours. Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts are the worst hit among five affected districts. With law and order situation improving, the district administrations are taking measures to persuade victims to return to their homes.

P Chidambaram coming tomorrow

Union home minister P Chidambaram will be on a stock-taking visit to Kokrajhar on Monday. The home minister is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati at 10 in the morning. To be accompanied by chief minister Tarun Gogoi, Chidambaram will straightly leave for Kokrajhar where he would meet senior police and civil officials apart from visiting the relief camps.
