NGT directive to Centre on panel of experts

KOLKATA: The mega dam logjam refuses to die down with the National Green Tribunal in Kolkata asking for a government affidavit to counter a fresh complaint from Aabhijeet Sharma who questioned three members in the panel of experts set up to study the entire issue. According to Sarma, he explained to court that if the committee is allowed to function all efforts done till date will be in vain.

  The Assam Public Work’s chief who move the judicial body based in Kolkata raising objections on the two members  said ID Gupta, the seismology is already a consultant of the previous panel which has already submitted his view in favour of the dam. Justice Mr. S. P. Wangdi then asked the Centre to file an affidavit asking “Do you think it is fair to appoint the same person in the 3 member committee.”

  The second member in question was PM Scott, the north eastern hydrology expert who is a Central government employee posted in the Central Water Commission who also holds the charge as the Vice Chairman of Bharamaputra Board. The petitioner explained to court that if the committee is allowed to function all efforts done till date will be wasted.  After hearing, the court directed the ministry of environment and forest to file an affidavit to counter the allegations against the 3 member committee. The court then fixed March 7, 2018 as the next date of hearing.
