MARGHERITA: Tinsukia Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has demanded strict implementation of the Assam Language Act 1960 in letter and spirit. In a memorandum submitted to Margherita Sub Divisional Officer(Civil) on Tuesday, working president Lakhi Norah and general secretary Pranjal Pratim Neog have said Assam is an abode of the dozens of ethnic tribes and communities But many of these groups don’t speak and write Assamese.
In Margherita and its adjoining areas, Assamese has become a missing language in many business enterprises, Government and Semi Government Offices, School and Colleges. Much to utter dismay, banners and hoardings are never seen in the mother language which is really unfortunate and ridiculous. They further threaten to launch an agitation if the Act is not implemented.
