Martyrs Day pledge

GUWAHATI: With deep devotion and pledge of an immigrant free Assam, the state observed the Martyrs’ Day on Sunday marking the end of the life of Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the Assam agitation.

Many parties and organizations and individuals have offered floral tributes to the martyrs who made supreme sacrifice to restore the real identity of the state and its people. Social media is full of status offering tribute to the 855 people who fought till the end of their lives. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, his cabinet colleagues paid homage to the martyrs on the occasion.

Many Assam agitation leaders have expressed grave concern over the incomplete implementation of the Assam Accord. They, mostly, blamed it all Dispur and Delhi for lack of interest. The family members of the martyrs also have the same sentiment even thirty years after the signing of the Accord.
