TANGLA:The sericulture exhibition cum demonstration programme concluded in Udalguri with all success. Jointly rganised by Directorate of Sericulture BTC and Central Silk Board for the silk worm rearers of Baksa, Darrang and Udalguri, the event drew huge response at all levels.
BTC EM of the sericulture Deven Boro, opened the event to be graced by former director of central silk board ,Dr. Kanika Trivedi lauded the efforts of BTAD districts specifically Udalguri which has been excelling as a model district in the entire region not only in eri and muga but also in mulberry silk production.
Minister of State for PHE and Food and Civil Supply,Rihon Daimari formally opened a multi end reeling unit for the production of high quality international grade raw silk . More than five hundred sericulture division from the three districts mostly women partcipated in the event.
The Bodo belt is the largest producer of eri raw silk in Assam after Karbi Along. A total land area of 2,895 hectares is covered under muga, eri and mulberry silkworm food plant in the BTAD with 51,195 families being directly involved in sericulture.

Barring a few stray incidents polling for the first phase of panchayat election are over registering a huge turn out in 8 districts on Wednesday.The polling began at 7 in the morning and ended at 3 in the afternoon where 28,680 candidates are in the fray in eight districts. Among them, 643 have contested for the post of zilla parishad member, 2,801 for anchalik panchayat member, 3,099 for gaon panchayat president's post and 22,137.The first phase include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Kaliabor, Nagaon Sadar, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts.

Normal train services remained heavily disrupted in Goalpara and Kamrup districts on Tuesday when ARSU activists blocked the roads in protest against holding of panchayat elections in Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council areas. ULFA has owned up the responsibility of the strike in oil pipeline at Makum on Tuesday. Security forces claimed to have killed a hardcore ULFA militant following a heavy exchange of firing in Goalpara district on Tuesday.The encounter took place in early in the morning at Khardang near Dudhnoi bordering Meghalaya where the ULFA militant was killed to be later identified as Niyar Asom. The first phase will decide the fate of altogether 28,680 candidates in eight districts.
Of them, 643 candidates will contest for the post of Zilla Parishad member, 2,801 for Anchalik Panchayat member, 3,099 candidates for Gaon Panchayat president's post and 22,137 candidates filed their nominations for Gaon Panchayat membership.
First phase will include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Kaliabor, Nagaon Sadar, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. The counting of votes would take place on February 14 and February 15.
