Community marriage passed off peacefully

Nearly 250 couples have been tie-knot at a mass marriage ceremony at Kachugaon Public High School ground in Kokrajhar district on Thursday.

Community marriage ceremony brings happy married life among Saotali community, which witnesses of irrespective of communities at Kachugaon in Kokrajhar district on Thursday,which was organised jointly by Hindu Saotali Lek Ashar Rukhia Baishi(Hindu Saotali Sangskriti Suraksha Society) and Seva Bharati Purbanchal, Guwahati.

  Huge couples,who are coming from economically backward from remote villages of Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts were tie-knot on the day with creating festivity like environment in the area. The ground saw huge spectators to witness the mass wedding function in the region.

 The mass marriage has been witnessing huge gathering of citizens through Saotali rituals. The priests performed the wedding ceremony as groom and bridegrooms were dressed new clothes to get married on their life.

Peoples from all sections of communities extended their best wishes to the newly married couples that were tie knot in a public.

Assam minister Naba Kumar Doley and Brindaban Maharaj Amritananda atteneded the function and blessed all newly wedded couples.

Newly wedded couples expressed thor gratitude as they got opportunity to be part of the mass marriage by social organisations.

'I am very much lucky one to be tie knot today publicly in my life', said Himadri Hasda, a newly married person from Srirampur.

'Today I got my life partner through the mass wedding. I am feeling happy because my new life has been started from today ", said Snehi Murmu,a newly married woman from Kachugaon village.

 Doley while extending his best wishes to all newly married couples said that peoples of this area are getting a healthy environment as social organisations have been arranged a mass marriage function to pave way new life among common citizens.

' It was an initiative for bringing social integration among grassroot citizens who are living hand to mouth. The mass marriage function has been giving a ray of new life in their family leading ', he said.

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar. Three individuals, including former MLA and senior BPF (Bodoland People's Front) leader Hitesh Basumatary, were arrested by police in Baksa district after a search operation at Basumatary's residential complex resulted in the recovery of a large cache of illegal arms and ammunition.
