NEWDELHI:Top social activists and farming fraternity leaders have come to the rescue of Akhil Gogoi holding huge rally in New Delhi demanding the release of the KMSS leader who has been jailed under NSA.
More than one lakh farmers from across the country thronged the Ram Lila Ground in the morning and took out a huge procession to the Jantar Mantar demanding unconditional and immediate release of the RTI activist who has been languishing at the Dibrugarh Central Jail.
In his address at the mammoth rally, social activist Yogendra Yadav said the government had been scared of Gogoi and if he was allowed to move without any hindrence, he would not allow the corrupt ministers and political leaders to sleep quietly. He said the arrest of Akhil Gogoi had exposed the fascist face of the BJP led government.
Medha Patkar, addressing the protestors said they would intensify the stir if Gogoi is not released at an earlier date. Other speakers also vowed to carry on the massive agitation against thr government saying it an undeclared emergency.
Protester, who talked to Assam Times called it a peasant revolt which could take a grim turn if the people in power refuse to read the writings on the wall.
