GUWAHATI: More than 200 peasants are leaving for New Delhi to unite their counterparts in eastern, northern and southern states in the capital to demand immediate release of Akhil Gogoi who has been languishing in jail under the National Security Act.
Over 150 peasants organizations from across the country are meeting on Monday and Tuesday to launch a statewide massive agitation to free the KMSS leader whom the Assam government arrested under NSA for urging the people to remain prepared for an armed struggle if need be.
"Definitely, we have found a huge platform to raise our demand. This conclave will force government to read the pulse of the peasant fraternity,"said Khagen Tamuly from Nagaon who is one of the Delhi bound Prasant team.
Nagen Talukdar from Barpeta said," we want to send a strong message to th government that we are not alone to fight for the release of Akhil Gogoi. The entire nation bats for the peasant leader."
Many prominent leaders. scholars and social activists are attending the huge meeting demanding immediate and unconditional release of Akhil Gogoi.
