The Centre has come in for sharp criticism a day after it moved the Supreme Court seeking yet another period of 6 months to publish the NRC draft.
Many frontal parties, organizations and individuals have charged the NDA government at the Centre with trying to induct the names of Hindu immigrants in NRC resorting to delaying tactic.
AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said the Centre is trying its best to amend the Citizenship Act to safeguard the interest of the Hindu immigrants before the finalization of the draft.
AJYCP leader Palashjyoti Changmai said the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre wants NRC draft only after an amendment of the Citizenship Act to ensure the inclusion of the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants.
Notably, the home ministry on Thursday moved a petition before the country’s apex court seeking six more months to publish the NRC draft.
Earlier, the NRC draft was to be published on December 31, 2017 and if the court agrees, the draft would be published only on July 31,2018.
