Veteran Congressleader in Nazira Tonkeshwar Saikia breath his last at his own residence of Nazira Simaluguri on Thursday. He was 81 and survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter.
Saikia, the elder brother of former Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia died of prolonged illness. Many political leaders, organizations and individuals have deeply condoled his death. Veteran Leftleader and former MLA Drupad Gohain condoled the death of the octogenerian social workers.

An 18 years old girl commited suicide in Nazira sending shock wave across the entire area on Sunday. Identified as Suchila Nayak, she committed suicide at Simaluguri on Saturday night. She worked as a helper at the residence of Dr.Prabin Konwar for the last couple of months. Her father Subu Nayak of Lakuw Rangagarah has lodged a complaint at the Simaluguri police station . The reason of the extreme step was not known.

In a bizarre incident that questions the existance of humanity, a woman gave birth to a baby on the street on Sunday. The incident that sends shockwaves across the state took place in Nazira where and mentall disable women gave birth to a baby on the Sunday in the broadday light. Having seen this pathetic plight, a section of eyewitness rushed the mother and the newborn to the Ligiripukhuri Hospital they are undergoing treatment. A few local NGOs are in touch with the authority to take over the care of the baby whose father is not known.
