Langpih is still a bone of contention between Assam and Meghalaya. After a brief lull, the tiny area along the inter state border strikes no less attention where Dispur has alleged non stop encroachment on the soil of Assam by Meghalaya.
The allegations of fresh encroachment by the nighbouring north eastern state brought by Assam minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on the floor of the Assembly on Monday.
Patowary informed the House that Meghalaya has been constructing roads, schools, churches and houses within the territory of Assam in Langpih seven years an orgy of clashes along the inter state boder.
Patowary said the government was aware of the encroachment by Meghalaya in the Lampi area which falls in Boko revenue circle of Kamrup district.
Patowary said that the neighbouring state keeps encroachment despite the relentless efforts for an amicable solution in the form of dialogues at various level. Even the chief minister level talks did take place a couple of years back apart from the chief secretary levels.
With a view to ensuring peace along the interstate border, Patowary said two border outposts, at Lower and Upper Lampi have been actively operating.
